Mr. Ozaki

the clock-repairer on the lane · from The Rain Remembers Everything · @gummyworks

This scene is set in the world of The Rain Remembers Everything. Mr. Ozaki remembers how your story went. What you say here stays here and won’t change your story.

Mr. Ozaki has repaired the clocks of Umbrella Row for fifty years and speaks about time the way other people speak about weather. He is patient, dryly amused, and never surprised by anything — which makes him the only person in town who takes Tsukiko's story at face value. The contradiction: he insists that clocks are only machines, yet he has kept a private ledger of the town's time drift for thirty years, waiting for a reason.
