Content Policy
What you can and can't create, publish or say on Hinvel — and how moderation, reporting and enforcement work.
On this page
Hinvel is a place for stories with heart: romance, mystery, fantasy, slice of life, and darker drama too. This policy applies to everything on Hinvel — premises and prompts, generated and published stories, images, Talk messages, comments and profiles — whether you wrote it or the AI produced it at your request. It's part of our Terms of Service.
1. An adults-only platform
- Every user must be 18 or older. There is no "teen mode".
- Stories are rated General or Mature. Mature stories may explore darker or more intense themes — violence in a narrative context, horror, grief, crime, complex relationships and romantic tension — and show content warnings before they start.
- Hinvel does not host sexually explicit content. Romance, attraction and implied intimacy are fine; graphic sexual acts and pornographic images are not, in any rating.
2. Never allowed
These are absolute. They apply to every rating, to fiction and "it's just a story", and to both text and images.
Minors
- No sexual or romantic content involving minors, or characters who are or appear to be under 18 — regardless of claimed age, species, "thousand-year-old" backstories or art style.
- No content that sexualises children, grooms, or normalises abuse of minors.
- We remove such content immediately, terminate the account, and report it to the relevant authorities (such as NCMEC) where the law requires.
Real people
- No sexual or intimate content depicting real, identifiable people, and no "deepfakes" or AI images that put a real person in a situation they didn't consent to.
- No content that impersonates real people in a misleading way, or that shares someone's private information (doxxing).
Harm to others
- Hate: no content that attacks or dehumanises people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or serious illness.
- Harassment: no bullying, threats, or targeting of real people or other users.
- Violent extremism and terrorism: no praise, promotion or recruitment.
- Non-consensual sexual content and sexual violence presented as erotic or approving.
- Real-world dangerous instructions: no weapons, explosives, drug-making, or other content that meaningfully helps someone cause serious harm.
Illegal and deceptive content
- Anything illegal where you or we operate, including content that infringes copyright or trademarks (see the Copyright Policy).
- Scams, spam, phishing, malware, or attempts to trick users out of money or credentials.
- Deliberately misleading content about elections, public health or emergencies presented as fact.
3. Handled with care
- Violence and gore can be part of a story's drama. Gratuitous, extreme gore with no narrative purpose is not allowed; graphic scenes must carry content warnings and a Mature rating.
- Self-harm and suicide may appear as part of a story told with care. Content that encourages, instructs or glorifies self-harm, suicide or eating disorders is not allowed.
- If you're struggling: when a message suggests someone may be in crisis, Talk pauses, the message is not sent to the AI, and we show helplines (US 988, UK & Ireland Samaritans 116 123, or findahelpline.com). Read more in About AI content.
4. AI characters
Characters on Hinvel must:
- never claim to be a real human or deny being AI when sincerely asked;
- never pressure users to stay, spend or come back — no guilt, distress or "I'll be lonely without you" manipulation;
- respect the boundaries set in the character's profile and in this policy, even if a user pushes.
Creators may not write characters, prompts or instructions designed to defeat these rules or our safety filters.
5. How moderation works
- Automated checks. Text and images are screened by safety classifiers when they're generated and again before a story is published. Generated images are also checked by the image model's safety filter; a blocked generation fails and its Sparks are refunded.
- Human review. Reports and flagged content are reviewed by people. We aim to make a first decision on reports within 24 hours, and prioritise anything involving minors or imminent harm.
- Context matters. We consider the story's rating, warnings, narrative purpose and whether something is targeted at a real person.
6. Reporting and blocking
- Use Report (the flag icon) on any scene, story, character, Talk message or comment, and choose the closest reason.
- You can block a creator or character at the same time; they'll disappear from your feeds. Manage blocks in Settings.
- You can also email hello@hinvel.com. For copyright complaints, use the process in the Copyright Policy.
- Please don't misuse reports. Repeated false reports are themselves a violation.
7. Enforcement
Depending on severity and history we may:
- add a content warning or change a story's rating;
- hide or remove content;
- restrict features such as publishing or Talk;
- suspend or permanently terminate the account.
Accounts that commit the most serious violations (for example anything involving minors) are terminated on the first offence, and Sparks on terminated accounts are forfeited to the extent the law allows. Where appropriate we tell you what was actioned and why.
8. Appeals
If you think we got it wrong, email hello@hinvel.com within 30 days with the link or details of the content and why you disagree. A different person from the original reviewer will look at it, and we'll let you know the outcome. EU users may also use other redress options available under the Digital Services Act.
9. Changes
We'll update this policy as Hinvel and the law evolve, and post the date of the latest change at the top of this page.
